Challenge: The area lacked adequate sewer network facilities. There was an absence of a proper system for waste water management, which affected the overall sanitation and hygiene standards. This shortcoming highlighted the need for the development and implementation of a comprehensive sewer network to improve living conditions and public health in the locality.

Solution: JD Consultancy utilised advanced modelling tools and strategic planning to restructure the network, ensuring optimal depth and enhanced performance.

Impact: The total network depth was decreased by almost 2 meters, while enhancements in velocity contributed to more efficient and stable network operations.

Challenge: The ESR was situated at the lower ground level, facing the highest point of the proposed area. Furthermore, the maximum pipe diameter was insufficient to supply water to the higher elevations due to increased friction losses.

Solution: JD Consultancy recommended increasing the pipe diameter to minimise frictional losses in the trunk mains. Furthermore, the network layout was revised to optimise both demand distribution and pressure management within the system.

Impact: The higher elevations achieved satisfactory pressure as a result of optimised pipe diameter, which improved municipal confidence and supported future scalability.

Challenge: Completing a network in areas with a high underground water table and nerrow streets presents significant challenges during construction and can result in ongoing maintenance issues for utility infrastructure.

Solution: We completely changed the layout of the network to minimize the depth of the utility while maintaining the optimum self-cleaning velocity of the network. By providing just one intermediate pumping station, we successfully a designed more than 120 KMs of sewer network.

Impact: Execution got smoother for the contractor with a lower depth of the utility.

Challenge: The primary objective was to establish a network with a maximum depth of 5 to 6 meters. The undulating terrain, however, presented significant difficulties in consistently maintaining depths beneath 6 meters.

Solution: Through frequent site inspections and consistent coordination with the site team, we effectively redesigned the network layout. Consequently, we maintained the depth below six metres and optimised the flow, which enabled us to reduce the required pipe diameters.

Impact: A 110 KM+ network without any pumping station and optimised pipe diameters.

Challenge: As Udaipur has a rock after 3 meters below ground level, the prime task was to keep the depth as low as possible to prevent blasting for excavation in busy city streets.

Solution: The network was segmented into two sections to maintain a depth below five metres. Furthermore, the layout was revised and updated to remove redundant lines, thereby preventing unnecessary increases in depth based on findings from multiple site visits.

Impact: Overall network depth was below 5 meters and with just one pumping station, we designed a 180+ KMs of network with ease.

Challenge: The challenge was to maintain adequate pressure at various OHSRs in different villages. Some OHSRs had been built previously, while others were not included in our current proposal.

Solution: A revised design strategy was implemented for the gravity mains, wherein the treated water sump of the Water Treatment Plant (WTP) was elevated to enhance the Hydraulic Grade Line (HGL) of the gravity main. This modification resulted in an increase in pressure at the top of the Overhead Storage Reservoir (OHSR) from 3 meters to 6 meters. With an appropriately selected peak factor on the higher side, the scheme demonstrated a high level of optimisation.

Impact: The overall network has been optimized in accordance with the item criteria specified in schedule-B of the tender documents.
